An African immigrant facing deportation has drawn support from about 80 protesters who attended a vigil on his behalf.
Twenty-six-year-old Prince Gbohoutou’s case has drawn attention since he refused last month to board a flight that would have taken him to his native country of the Central African Republic.
The airline refused to take an unwilling passenger, so Gbohoutou (bah-HOO’-too) was returned to custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He is being held at the Frederick County jail.
Gbohoutou lost his immigration appeals several years ago but has since married a U.S. citizen. He fears he will be killed if returned to the Central African Republic.
The Frederick News-Post reports those gathered at Friday’s vigil chanted messages of support loud enough for Gbohoutou to hear from his cell.
